Santa Fe competed at Yukon and qualified a pair with senior Tyler Shaw and freshman Brett Dunning each earning their first trip to the state tournament. Shaw pulled off a couple of upsets on his way to a runner-up finish at heavyweight, while Dunning pinned Keaton Randall of Westmoore in the third-place match at 112.

“Last year we came up a little short, so I’m tickled to death to have a couple of guys make it this year,” Santa Fe coach Tim Draper said. “I had a lot of young guys and some seniors step up and I’m excited to see them get there.”

Also finishing as state alternates were Tre Doakes and Walter Smith.

The State Wrestling Championships are set to begin Friday at State Fair Arena, with the final wrapping on Saturday evening.
