YUKON - The Santa Fe Wolves had eight wrestlers move on after the first day of the 6A West Regional tournament, Brett Dunning, Blake Harris, Tre Doakes, Anthony Tuttle, Walter Smith, Derick Wadlington, Brandon Roberts and Tyler Shaw, but Anthony Tuttle failed to make weight Saturday morning, leaving only seven wrestlers.

The Wolves had four wrestlers place, two Alternates and two State Qualifers. Santa Fe also finished in 12^th place with Muskogee at the top of the team standings.

Tre Doakes (145) lost to Lawton’s Paul Lopez by a fall in the consolation semi-finals. Doakes a senior, finished his high school career a high note, defeating Choctaw’s Geoff Thomason 7-5 for fifth place and a State Tournament Alternate.

Walter Smith (171) lost to Norman’s Kyle Pasque 4-3 in the consolation semi-finals. Smith a sophomore, finished in fifth place as a State Tournament Alternate picking up the 4-3 decision over Yukon’s Carson Mathews.

STATE QUALIFIERS

Brett Dunning (112) had previously lost to Westmoore’s Keaton Randal in the quarter-finals 1-0, but the freshman got his revenge with a second period fall in the consolation finals for the third place finish.

Tyler Shaw (275) had been a great run come up one point shy of a 6A West Regional Championship. Shaw a senior and in his first year of wrestling defeated the #4 seed and the #1 seed in quarter-final and semi-final rounds. In the championship finals, Shaw lost a narrow decision to Muskogee’s Ryan Lester 2-1 for the runner-up finish.
